Instagram rolled out photo and video replies within its Stories feature. The goal with this update? According to Instagram, it’s to “be even more fun and playful when you respond to friends.”
To reply by video or photo, Instagram provides these brief directions:
To reply with a photo or a video, tap the new camera button while you’re watching a story. You can use any creative tools in the camera, including face filters, stickers and Rewind. Replies also include a sticker of the story that you can move around and resize.
Some see this new feature as another way of Instagram increasing pressure on its rival, Snapchat. Currently, Snapchat only allows text replies on its Stories.
For businesses who use Instagram to engage with their audiences, Andrew Hutchinson of Social Media Today suggests using this new feature in one of many ways: “…you could ask viewers to respond to your Stories with their own videos and images, maybe to enter a competition or show creative ways in which they’re using your products…”
