Nearly two months ago, Facebook suspended Cambridge Analytica for using an app to exploit user information. Since then, the platform has suspended an additional 200 apps for possible misuse of data.
After the Cambridge Analytica event, Facebook stated they would begin investigating each app on the platform that had access to vast quantities of data. After investigating thousands of apps, 200 of those apps are now pending investigation. Facebook states,
“To date thousands of apps have been investigated and around 200 have been suspended — pending a thorough investigation into whether they did in fact misuse any data. Where we find evidence that these or other apps did misuse data, we will ban them and notify people via website.”
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook has stated that apps that fail the audit or who refuse to take part in the audit would be banned from the platform completely. Facebook is making strides in protecting user information, taking the steps necessary to prioritize security measures.
