Facebook confirmed this week that it will begin placing an emphasis on posts from friends and family, thereby limiting the reach of posts from media, brands and businesses. This shift in focus is apparently due to Facebook’s overarching mission to connect people and bring them closer together.
Mark Zuckerberg announced on his Facebook profile the goal behind this shift in focus:
I’m changing the goal I give our product teams from focusing on helping you find relevant content to helping you have more meaningful social interactions.
The changes toward this goal actually began last year, but have begun in earnest. The most immediate changes will take place in individual News Feeds, but it will likely take months for the changes to be incorporated across all products.
