Amazon and eMarketer have announced that Amazon is set to bring in $4.61 billion in from digital advertising this year. Although this is only 4.1% of total US digital ad spend, Amazon has now surpassed Oath and Microsoft in the race, now challenging Facebook and Google for the top spot.
The latest research from eMarketer has predicted that Amazon will more than double its digital ad growth this year, up from 60% in March of this year. They state that this growth is due to a combination of accounting changes and a 10-12% increase in ad revenue growth that was much stronger than expected.
They also estimate that Amazon’s revenue will increase by more than 50% per year through at least 2020. Their share is also expected to grow from 4.1% to 7% in the short year or so to come.
To truly rival Google and Facebook, Amazon has a long way to go. However, the digital ad market on Amazon is relatively new and the possibilities are growing daily.
