For marketers and businesses seeking to target advertising to certain age demographics, recent estimates provided by Marketing Land contributor Tim Peterson offer great insight.
Overall, Facebook offers a larger audience in the U.S. than Instagram and Snapchat. But that does not mean Facebook is the automatic go-to for all marketers. Here’s how each platform breaks down by age group:
- 13- to 17-year-olds: Snapchat is the clear winner in this category, coming in at 18+ million users in this age group. Facebook and Instagram clock in near 5 million apiece.
- 18- to 24-year-olds: Facebook and Snapchat come in neck-and-neck in the race to attract this age group, with Instagram a close second.
- 25- to 34-year-olds: Facebook beats out its competition with this age bracket, followed next by Instagram and then Snapchat.
- 35-year-olds and greater: It is no contest for this age group; Facebook is leaps-and-bounds ahead of the competition here.
According to Peterson, Twitter and Pinterest are not included in this social media roundup due to their lack of supporting age-based ad targeting.
